After four years, ECS applications are reopening for a new cohort of choreographers. In parallel, the new ECS Forward Committee will lead continued opportunities and activities for ECS alumni.
ECS 2027: CHOREOGRAPHER APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN
Emerging Choreographer Series (ECS) is an intensive self-producing program designed for choreographers who are ready to develop an original idea into a fully produced stage work. The 2027 cohort will bring together five NYC-based choreographers working across dance forms, styles, and cultural perspectives.
Choreographers are selected based on the clarity and potential of their proposed idea—not on a finished piece. ECS is particularly interested in projects that challenge the artist’s existing practice, experiment with form or movement language, or engage with relevant social, cultural, or political questions.
WHO CAN APPLY
Choreographers must be 18 or older, reside in one of New York City’s five boroughs, and be available for all mandatory program dates from November 2026 through April 2027. Applicants may not be enrolled full-time in a college, degree-granting program, or professional intensive during the program.
WHAT SELECTED CHOREOGRAPHERS RECEIVE
$1,000 choreographic fee
Paid dancers
Up to 35 hours of free rehearsal space
Professional development and dramaturgical mentorship
Production, marketing, photo and video support
Two fully produced performances at LPAC
