The Young Wave! is Mare Nostrum Elements’ outreach program that aims to provide children and teens between the ages of 4 and 18 with an exciting introduction in how to use movement and performance to tell stories and express feelings through Movement Theater exercises and explorations appropriate for their age group. The method merges the knowledge and experience of actor/director Kevin Albert (Boston Conservatory graduate) and performer Nicola Iervasi (former Martha Graham Ensemble member) and provides a balanced mix of acting, dance and body conditioning techniques.
The goal of The Young Wave! method is to stimulate young students’ creativity by guiding them through a physical journey that nurtures, values, and develops each student’s unique creativity and viewpoint.
We recently finished our 8-week children’s intensive that culminated in April’s fool, a multidisciplinary performance created and performed by 20 children ages 8-10 from PS11Q and Saint Sebastian School in Woodside.
April’s fool is made possible (in part) by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs; as well as funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Queens Council on the Arts.
April’s fool is also made possible by a generous space donation from the Church of Saint Sebastian Parish Center
The Wave Within! outreach programs are offered throughout the US and internationally
in public and private schools, Universities, Community Centers and Arts Festivals.
The establishment of The Wave Center will propel the Organization’s
outreach programs to the Woodside and Queens local community.
