MNE Creates- The Performance Group

MARE NOSTRUM ELEMENTS is an eclectic community of performers from 10 different countries, with diversified artistic training and stage experience. Emotional activation and movement exploration drive the group’s dynamic creative process: all members (elements) collaborate to transform ideas and experience into cross-disciplinary performances. MNE is devoted to portraying real people and the struggle of ordinary life through the powerful medium of Movement Theater.

THE PURPOSE

Our mission is to create emotionally-driven stage productions that explore and celebrate dance, theater and movement. These specially conceived productions focus on the truthfulness of character and are offered to the community at low cost. MNE is also committed to the production of multicultural, multi-language events celebrating traditional art forms and ethnic customs. The Elements are committed to creating and portraying intimate, true-to-life characters that the audience can relate to and follow in their emotional journey.

MARE NOSTRUM ELEMENTS performance group made their debut with a work-in-progress of Mediterranean Voices, an interdisciplinary, multilingual performance in collaboration with the music department of New York University (NYU). For the occasion, Greek composer Dimitris Issaris wrote an original score performed live by a 12-member orchestra.

A fully re-staged, sold-out run of Mediterranean Voices was performed at La MaMa ETC in March/April 2006. In May/June, 2007, MARE NOSTRUM ELEMENTS staged the Off-Off-Broadway “Back 2 Back,” an evening of contrasting one-act plays: North of Providence by E.A. Baker and Welded by Eugene O’Neill. MNE has also performed at the international choreographic festival Dancing Planet in Brooklyn, N.Y., the Here Arts Center, Peridance Center, and the September 11 Benefit Gala at the American Theater of Actors in New York City. Overseas appearances include the multimedia event Figli Diversi in Terni, Italy, the Roccella Jazz Festival in Locri, Italy.
