[GROUP]
Mare Nostrum Elements is an eclectic group of performers
collaborating from 10 different countries, with diversified artistic training
and experiences. Movement exploration and emotional activation are the
fundaments of the creative process: all the members (Elements)
collaborate transform ideas and knowledge into cross-disciplinary
performances.
Nostrum Mission. Mare Nostrum Elements strives to reduce
the distance between artistic languages by exploring the many aspects
of being on stage. The group is dedicated to produce multicultural events
embracing different languages, exploring traditional art forms and ethnic
customs as well. This mission is brought forward through performances and
outreach programs for diverse audience and communities in the US and abroad.
The "Elements" are ultimately committed to portraying real people
and the struggle of ordinary life.
Nostrum Story. Italian performer Nicola Iervasi and American
actor Kevin Albert founded Mare Nostrum Elements in 2001. "Mediterranean
Voices", produced in collaboration with the music department of New York
University (NYU), marked the debut of the group. For the occasion
an original score was composed by Dimitris Issaris and performed
live by a 12-member orchestra. Other venues include the international
choreographic festival "Dancing Planet" in Brooklyn, the "September
11 Benefit Gala" at the American Theater of Actors and the multimedia
showing "Figli Diversi" in Terni-Italy. MNE Movement Theater workshops
have been offered throughout the US and Italy. New York City workshops
include La Guardia High School for the Performing Arts, NYU, Peridance
Center, PMT House of Dance and Trinity/LaMaMa.
