OR-YAH MAOR
Country: ISRAEL
Story: I was born and raised in Israel where I started my physical training
at age 3. Upon moving to New York in 1998, I furthered my training at the
Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, where I received my
Professional Trainee Program Certificate. As a Yoga and Gyrotonic
instructor, I have been teaching in the U.S., Israel and the Far East. I am
currently living in Bangkok where besides taking care of my baby girl Liri,
I teach Hatha Yoga, Pilates as well as pre and post-natal yoga.
Career: While in Israel, I have danced with Rishon Le Zion and Inbal
dance company. Upon moving to New York, I performed with The Junction
Dance Company and Sofia Gal Dance Theatre among others. During my
stay in the big apple, I also had the chance to develop and perform my
own choreography at the Field, the Hatch Project by Jennifer Muller/The
Works, The Stable and East 4 Theatre.
Or-Yah and MNE: After 3 years of friendship and collaborations, Nicola
asked me to be a founding member of Mare Nostrum Elements. At that
time I didn't have a clear idea of what was going to happen. I just blindly
bounded with the development of Mediterranean Voices; I trusted the
idea, the energy and my background. I felt I had no other choice but to be
part of it, so I performed at the NYU's Frederick Loewe Theater and at the
Stable for the international choreographic festival Dancing Planet. I would
like to thank Nicola and Kevin for their great friendship and support, for
their great talent who brought Mare Nostrum Elements' special and unique
experience to evolve.
