MARIANTHI VRETTOU
Country: GREECE
Gyrokinesis Coordinator, Performer
Story: A native of Greece, I started my dance training in classical ballet,
modern, flamenco and traditional folk dancing. Soon after receiving my
degree in dance education, I moved to New York to study at the Martha
Graham School of Contemporary Dance as a demonstrator scholarship
recipient. While in New York, I also became a certified Pilates, Gyrokinesis
and Gyrotonic instructor. I am currently living in Athens where I teach
Graham-based dance classes. I'm thrilled I have been chosen to perform
for the opening ceremony of the Olympic games in Summer 2004.
Career: My stage experience includes Anna Petrova Dance Company,
Theatrokinesis, Proskairi Synthesis, Coyote Dancers, Pearl Lang
Dance Theater, Dzul Dance and Saba Dance Theater among others. While in New
York, besides performing, I've been teaching Gyrotonic in few studios.
Marianthi & MNE: I'm proudly one of Mare Nostrum Elements founding
members. I was in the original cast of "Mediterranean Voices" at the
Frederick Loewe Theater and performed at the international choreographic
festival "Dancing Planet" at The Stable. I am happy to serve as the
Gyrokinesis Coordinator of the training and being part of the leading team
for MNEMT workshops.
