LAURA SHALLCROSS
Country: USA
Story: I grew up in Chicago where I studied at Barat College
and graduated with a B.F.A. in dance. As a member of the Repertory Dance
Company, I worked with different choreographers such as Eileen Cropley,
Rory Foster, Gail Gilbert and Jessica Lang. Barat also helped me develop
and put to work my choreographic skills. I moved to New York City
to study at Peridance Center, Steps on Broadway and Merce Cunningham Studio.
Career: While in New York, I worked with Igal Perry, Charlotte Griffin,
Jessica Lang and NYC Dance Alliance. I am presently working with The Ad
Deum Dance Company in Houston and preparing for a tour to Greece
& Bulgaria. As a teacher and choreographer I have been working in various
schools in Chicago, NY & Houston. My latest projects include
choreographing solos for competitions and co-owning a Performing Arts
School in Alabama.
Laura and MNE: As a founding member of Mare Nostrum Elements I was
in the original cast of Mediterranean Voices at the Frederick Loewe Theater
and also performed at the international choreographic festival Dancing
Planet. While working on some new material with Nicola Iervasi, we were
asked to participate at the Sept. 11 Benefit Gala presented by the
American Theater of Actors; for that occasion we co-created
and performed ".Show me the Way".
"To work with Mare Nostrum Elements you have to be somewhat humble,
but when you are... some extraordinary things happen."
