JANE CULLEY
Country: USA
Story: As an actress and Theater Director with 15 Off-Broadway and over
40 Off-Off-Broadway shows in New York City, it is a little bit challenging
for me to summarize my experiences in a biography. but I'll give it a try.
After a Jazz dance career, including Bob Fosse's film "All that Jazz," I
trained at the Martha Graham School and at Mary Anthony Studio, where I
still go for movement inspiration.
Career: Within my theater credits there are 15 Shakespearian leading
roles including "Macbeth" with Raul Julia at the Public Theatre as the first
Witch and the Nurse; Constance in "King John", Elizabeth in "Richard III"
and Tamora in "Titus Andronicus". I was please and honored to receive
the Jean Dalrymple and T.O.R. awards as best actress Off-Broadway for
"The Holy Junkie" by John Quinn and "'Til Jason comes" by Dan Lauria. As
a dancer I worked with Bob Diaz Co, Saba Dance Theater and Maher
Benham's Coyote Dancers among others. My leading role in the short film
"Pāte" won the Best Actress by New York Magazine for 2002 New York first
run film Festival and took the Grand Prize at the Houston World Festival.
Jane and MNE: I've known Nicola from the Graham School, so, the first
time I heard about these movement theater workshops I went out of
curiosity, without really knowing what to expect. That was when I
performed with the other Elements for the June 2003 showing at Peridance
Center. Soon after that, I was invited to join the group and I'm really
happy to be part of The Wave. I performed in "...Until it rains Sand"
for Peridance Center independent choreographers series in June 2004.
