DANIELA DIINA
Country: ITALY/USA
Costume, Set & Graphyc Designer
Story: Hi, as you can see I like to draw. This is a serious portrait of myself
and I have several other characters in my portfolio, including Kevin and
Nicola. I am originally from Rome, Italy, I don't remember when or how I
started to draw or paint, I just recall that I always loved to travel,
discover new places, museums and art galleries. I guess that explains
something.
Career: I started my artistic career as a children's book illustrator. After
working for several magazines as a freelance illustrator and on personal
painting projects I had my first experience as set designer in two plays: A.
Ruccello's "Anna Cappelli" directed by F. Brasini, and Y. Mishima's "My
Friend Hitler" directed by Tito Piscitelli. In 1997 I moved to New York
where I have been working on various projects as costume and set
designer for H. Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" at the Mannes School of Music;
"Screeching Chalk" directed by F. Viscardi at the Checkhov Now Festival;
G.Stein's "Yes For A Very Young Man" directed by Drew Pisarra among
others.
Daniela and MNE: In a sunny afternoon of Spring 2001, Nicola called me
asking for help, so I think I can say I collaborate with Mare Nostrum
Elements since the beginning... I designed the costumes and the set for
"Mediterranean Voices" at NYU's Frederick Loewe Theater (2001), "Show
me the Way!" at the American Theater of Actors for the "Sept. 11 Benefit
Gala" (2002) and "...Until it rains Sand" at Peridance Center (2004). Ah,
by the way, I also designed MNE Logo.
