ANGELA WIELE
Country: GERMANY
Story: At age 10, I went along with a friend to my first ballet class
in Hamburg, Germany. Shortly after, all I wanted to do is dance
ballet. As I grew up I discovered that there is more to dance than
ballet and more to art than dance. Through a rocky road I went to
different (dance) schools in Germany until I found the Arnhem
College of Arts in the Netherlands, where I earned a BFA Degree
majoring in ballet, modern and flamenco dance. I went on to New
York City, where I attended the Ailey School and completed the
Professional Training Program and the Third Year Program at the
Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. I performed in
Martha Graham's Panorama during the 1999 New York City
Season and danced with Lacy James, Cora Hiebinger and "Isadora
Dance Legacy". Prior to coming to the US I taught dance
in Germany at professional dance schools and companies. In 2002 I
was certified by "The New York Pilates Studio" as a Pilates
Instructor and teach there as well as I am part-time faculty for
Pilates at The New School.
Angela and MNE: I was a friend of Nicola before he produced his
first performance of Mediterranean Voices @ NYU in 2001. I loved
that show and wanted to be part of it. Finally our schedules worked
out and I am delighted to be part of Mare Nostrum Elements.
