ALESSANDRA BELLONI

Story: Alessandra Belloni is the co-founder and Artistic Director of
"I GIULLARI DI PIAZZA," an Italian music, theatre, and dance
ensemble who comprise the Artists-in-Residence at the Cathedral
of St. John the Divine in New York City. She is also the designer
of a line of signature series Italian tambourines made by Remo.
Alessandra was born in Rome, Italy and is committed to
preserving the strong and rich traditions of her culture by
remaining the only woman in the U.S. and Italy to specialize in
Southern Italian percussion combined with ritual dances and
singing. She has written, directed, and performed in many
critically acclaimed folk operas and theatrical works and
collaborated with master frame drummer, Glen Velez. Her recent
CD "Tarantelle & Canti D' amore" (NAXOS, 2003) was considered
the second best percussion CD of the year by DRUM Magazine and
has received many favorable reviews from major press. The CD
"Tarantata: The Dance of Ancient Spider" (SOUNDS TRUE, 2000)
was nominated as one of the best CDs of the year (2002) by Jon
Parales of The New York Times and Dan Hackman from The Los
Angeles Times, and won the Best World Percussion CD of the
Year by DRUM Magazine. Alessandra has performed at numerous music
festivals around the world including WOMAD (USA and Italy), Perc
Pan Festival(Brazil), Montreal Music Festival (Canada), Monterey
World Music Festival (CA), Perkusia Expo (Warsaw, Poland),
Drumming at the Pyramids ( Egypt), Cultural Center of Tel Aviv
(Israel) , and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (NYC). Please
